Educational Consultant- Caroline Hobbs
I am the proud mother of two adult children. My oldest daughter is navigating her career path in software sales. She is married and has a little girl of her own. My son is working in his field of study, an apprenticeship in trades. He plays just about every recreational sport possible, and is undoubtedly living his best life. Although both of my children are successful in their own right, their journey's and school experiences, are significantly different.
My day always includes a visit to the gym, walking or hiking. More recently, I have enjoyed yoga and I wondered why I took so long to discover it. From yoga, I learned the value of breath work and meditation. These mindfulness activities became a priority in my daily life. My days are more productive, when I prioritize time each day to slow down and catch my breath. I also love to read as often as possible. I usually have 2 books going at any given time, one for entertainment and the other to research something, that I want to learn more about. I enjoy both genres equally. I have spent the last year travelling between Canada, Europe and Central America. I am grateful for my new experiences and also for my slower pace each day.
I have been an educator for 29 years. For the past 15 years, I have worked in special education. I have supported students with learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, mild intellectual disabilities, autism, and gifted intellectualness. Many of these students struggled academically, socially or emotionally. Through my experiences, I observed that when a student was provided with an opportunity to "learn how they learned," they could choose the most effective strategy out of their tool box. I believe that every child has the ability to experience success, and build confidence each day.
When lagging Executive Functional Skills are identified as barriers to learning, let us work with your child to identify what those barriers are. Meaningful learning experiences allow for greater achievements. I believe that mindfulness is essential in all of our lives, at any age. Learning to clear our minds from stressors, or reducing negativity in challenging situations, will provide a solid foundation for new learning experiences.
We look forward to being a part of your child's journey.
